The Baby Boomers – Looking Young And Feeling Great

Baby boomers are not unique by having an urgent need to remain younger than their real years , moreover they have surely set a high standard for creating a tremendous market for products and services to cater for their wishes . It is this desire from those same boomers to remain looking young for as long as they possibly can that has caused an increase of demand for the beauty business and in the cosmetic surgery fields. It’s easy to dismiss as vanity the desire of these older people to imagine themselves as ‘forever young’ . But it goes a lot deeper than that .

It doesn’t take a great deal of research to see that these very same baby boomers forged their identities during the radical events of the 1960s and 1970s . Flower power , rock concerts , street protests and suchlike . Before this age of oldies burst like a bomb on the unsuspecting world , there had not been any youth movement. However during the Swinging Sixties , when rebellious thinking virtually took over our culture, and that of the rest of the world, everything changed for those boomers . And those changes never returned to what existed previously .

The culture of that time which now seems so very long ago , was one of the adoration of the young . That desire to take down age from off its pedestal and look up to everything about the young has permeated the culture even as the boomers themselves grew into middle age. And now they are about to be transforming in to the largest retirement generation in our history .

Not all of the young culture that is easy to document in baby boomers is just about looking sexy and dreading the physica l changes as we grow old . Some of what boomers love about the concept of youth has to do with the idealism and the commitment to causes that is common in younger people. The desire to improve the world and to be a force to make the planet better was what helped to make the new youth movement of the 1960s so unique . And because those values are laudable , we really can’t completely condemn the desire of those baby boomers to stay youthful .

So the quest to stay young often shows itself in cosmetic attempts to look young . You can easily understand the desire . We all want to look good . But the real proof of youth is not a tight butt and sixpack abs and smooth, unwrinkled skin. The phrase “you are as young the person you feel ” is often laughed at by baby boomers as a weak excuse . And it can be used to have an excuse to behave younger than you are and perhaps want to socialize with younger people in an inappropriate way. It can also be a sign of forgetfulness and early senile dementia. But it can also reflect that an inner youthfulness which is fueled by a youthful outlook on life and a basic policy of good health and exercise will keep anyone spry and vital well into their senior years.

It is when baby boomers combine those elements of inner youth with their cosmetic efforts to stay young that they really do retain a lot of their youthfulness way beyond what their years would report . We all have met some old woman or man who were so full of joy and energy that they left us imagining we were more ancient than they were. The glint in the eye, the curiosity about everything life has to offer, and that optimism and idealism that you normally associate with teenagers is quite impressive when it is being expressed by some old person .

(This ~ What you see } is the real youth movement created by those very baby boomers . It is more than tinting their hair or using wrinkle cream or Botox injections . It is about being inspiring role models to today’s young generation so they don’t have to lose their hopes and dreams . It shows that urgency and idealism in life can prosper no matter what age they are.

And if that is the legacy of the baby boomers , it’s a fine example for them to leave behind them for future people to aspire to .
